How to Pick a Grand Canyon Helicopter Tour

Choose the West Rim if you are limited on time and want to go to the bottom of the Canyon. It's only 45 minutes by helicopter. Grand Canyon West is the only place in the Canyon where you can land at the bottom. The Skywalk is located at this Rim. Lastly, there are more activities here, including rafting, ATV trail riding, the Indian Village, horseback riding, and more.

Head to the South Rim if you can spare a day. There are no direct helicopter flights to this Rim. Bus and airplane are your only options. The bus is cheap, but it takes 5.5 hours to get to the Park; the airplane takes 45 minutes. Purists consider the South Rim the "real Canyon". The most-famous views are here, and it's home to the best hiking trails.

Basic tour prices to the Rims are the same. That changes, however, when you upgrade your package to include such add-ons as a bottom landing, the Skywalk, and river rafting. Avoid purchasing trips from brokers, hotel concierges, and Vegas street vendors. Tour operators themselves offer the best prices on their websites. Rule of thumb: Book online.
