Papillon Helicopters

Hi, I'm Keith Kravitz and I'm a travel expert who writes about Grand Canyon helicopter tours. Choppers are far and away my preferred choice when it comes to sightseeing the canyon. There are many reasons for this. My favorite is the aerial views. Nothing comes close to hovering over the Dragoon Corridor during sunset or an early morning flight to the bottom of Grand Canyon West. If you are still adding to your bucket list, add a heli trip to it.

You will either do a helicopter flight at the West Rim or the South Rim. These destinations are the only two that permit such trips. Both areas are unique and beautiful and offer fantastic opportunities to see this natural wonder at its best. Unfortunately, you can't do both in a day. You have to pick, and this decision is pretty much based on where you start your journey and your budget.

Canyon Helicopters - For the Thrill of It!

Sin City is just 120 miles east of the West Rim. Choppers do the trip in under an hour. On the way, you get to see Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, and the Skywalk. Tours here include air only and several packages that bundle landing at the bottom, smooth water rafting (no rapids) and the Skywalk. Each is awesome in its own right. My favorite is the 4,000-descent to the base. If I have time, I extend that trip with a pontoon boat ride down the Colorado River. If you want activities with your canyon experience, I suggest you go here:

South Rim Grand Canyon helicopter tours start just outside the front gate of National Park. The route is elegantly simple: Take a straight shot across the Kaibab Plateau, enter the Dragoon Corridor (spectacular) until you reach the North Rim and return. This flight is absolutely thrilling. I can assure you that what you see in 30+ minutes is equal to no less than 3 days on the ground. It’s a chopper's ability to deliver so much in so little time that makes it a must for travelers on day trips. The best deals are here:

Bucket List? - Add a Helicopter Ride!

NOTE If you want to see the South Rim from Las Vegas, book an airplane/helicopter combo package. This flight leaves Vegas and gets you to the rim in 45 minutes. The route follows the Colorado River and the view out the over-sized windows of the Vistaliner airplanes that ply this route are unparalleled. At Grand Canyon airport, you transfer to your helicopter. Back on terra firma, you board a bus to the edge. It's a terrific tour and always gets two thumbs up from me.

If you want big canyon action, take a Grand Canyon helicopter tour. Getting airborne is the ultimate way to enjoy this national treasure. Prepare yourself for giant vistas, breathtaking rock formations, and a vastness that many consider life changing. As always, I urge all my readers to book in advance. These trips are hot, and words gotten out around the Internet how awesome they are. Until next time!

Have a GRAND day!
